Best Booster Packs to Open

Launching on October 30, 2024, Pokémon TCG Pocket is a casual, fast-paced reimagining of the traditional Pokémon Trading Card Game for mobile-devices. All of your favorite elements from the tabletop card game are here, including collecting cards, building powerful decks and facing off against opponents in strategic battles. Untapped.gg has created this useful Booster Pack guide to help you pick which cards to target and open!

ACQUIRING BOOSTER PACKS

Aside from your free Booster Pack every 12 Hours, Pack Hourglasses can be used to help speed up the Booster Timer. Shop Tickets can be used to buy additional Pack Hourglasses and Leveling Up earns you 1 Poké Gold - you can get additional Booster Packs for 6 Poké Gold each.

BEST BOOSTER PACKS TO OPEN

While each Booster Pack has the makings to create a competitive meta deck, we recommend opening Genetic Apex: Mewtwo, as its contents provide multiple paths to a top meta deck, including: Mewtwo EX Deck, 18-Trainer Articuno EX Deck, Venusaur EX Deck and Dragonite Deck.

Genetic Apex: Charizard gives access to Exeggutor EX early, a required piece for the Venusaur EX Deck, but the pack contents will eventually help you build the Charizard Moltres Deck and Starmie Deck.

Finally, Genetic Apex: Pikachu will help you build the titular Pikachu EX Deck - although a powerful deck, it’s hard to recommend pouring resources in these Booster Packs as there’s only one viable option from its contents.

BOOSTER PACK PROBABILITIES

There are three groupings a Booster Pack is broken down into, each has its own probabilities: first three cards, the fourth card, and the fifth card.

The first three cards in your pack are always Diamond-rarity cards and the higher rarities are distributed between the fourth and fifth card groupings. These don’t necessarily reveal in order and you can potentially open the fourth or fifth card in your pack first.

The only exception is a “Rare Pack.” Booster Pack has a 1 in 2,000 chance (0.05%) to be a “Rare Pack” and contain only Star- and Crown-rarity cards.

You can open duplicates of the same card in a booster pack and the language of the cards you open is dictated by the app’s selected language at the time the pack is opened.

CARD RARITY PROBABILITIES

A typical Booster Pack rarity distribution is as follows:

1-Diamond: 3.0

2-Diamond: 1.5

3-Diamond: 0.25 (1 in 4 chance)

4-Diamond: 0.0833 (1 in ~12 chance)

1-Star: 0.1286 (1 in ~7.77 chance)

2-Star: 0.025 (1 in 40 chance)

3-Star: 0.0111 (1 in ~90 chance)

Crown: 0.002 (1 in 500 chance)

This information is pulled directly from the “Offering Rates” table accessed by clicking the Booster Pack tab directly in the Pokémon TCG Pocket App.
